What is Kustom?
Kustom, formerly known as Klarna Checkout (KCO), is the Nordic market leader in digital checkout solutions and a payment service provider (PSP). Kustom will offer a variety of payment methods for end-customers – in addition to Klarna – and will be fully focused on further developing our conversion-leading service for you as a merchant.

What happens to me as a merchant?

As a merchant, you don’t need to do anything – the service will function as usual, and there will be no noticeable changes for you or your end-customers at this time. In the near future, we will enhance the service with new features, increased customization, additional payment methods, and more accessible customer support. You can continue to expect the high conversion rates that you are used to.

Will my end-customers notice any changes after the separation from Klarna?

Not at this stage – but over time, we look forward to offering more features, the ability to customize the service according to your needs, and of course, introducing new payment methods.

Will prices increase?

No, our focus is on enriching the offering without increasing the price.

Will I be assigned a new account manager/contact point after the separation?

During a transition period, you will retain the same point of contact you’ve had previously. Shortly, we will introduce your new contact at Kustom, along with updated support options.

Will my contract with KCO change as a result of the separation?

All merchant contracts will be transferred from Klarna to Kustom, in most cases without any changes. In rare instances where this is not the case, Klarna will contact you directly. If you have any questions, please reach out to your contact at Klarna.

Do I need to make any technical changes to my integration?

No, your current integration will continue to work as usual without requiring any technical changes. Any future updates will be communicated well in advance, and we look forward to offering new features and improvements without complicating your existing setup.

Will data storage and security change as a result of the separation?

No – Kustom will operate in the same way as Klarna, ensuring compliance with laws and guidelines related to data security and GDPR.

What does your partnership with Stripe mean?
The partnership with Stripe will enable the fast integration of new features and payment methods – features that will be gradually rolled out during 2025.

How will Stripe, as a technical partner, impact the service?

Stripe will provide us with a robust and flexible technical infrastructure, allowing us to quickly add new features and payment methods. This transition will happen gradually, and you as a merchant will not experience any negative impact during the process.

What new features can I expect moving forward?
Kustom’s checkout solution orchestrates a variety of functions for you as a merchant. This includes fundamental aspects like payment methods, currencies, and order management, but also integrations for shipping, discount codes, and more, all presented in an attractive and seamless way for the end-customer.

We aim to reduce the overall integration burden for merchants and ensure that all functions in the checkout work harmoniously, regardless of the systems the merchant uses. Additionally, we will provide our merchants with a broader set of features than today through further strategic partnerships.

Will Klarna’s payment methods still be available through Kustom?
Absolutely! Klarna will remain a cornerstone of our overall offering.
Company questions
Blank
Why did you choose the name Kustom?
Kustom fundamentally reflects our desire to offer a high degree of customization for our merchants. We will also be responsive to merchant feedback in our product development. Plus, we get to keep our abbreviation KCO.
What are the long-term plans for the company?
Through this spin-off from Klarna, we will focus entirely on developing the best possible service for you as a merchant. In the long term, we plan to expand both our product offering and our presence in additional markets.
How large will Kustom be after the separation?
Kustom has around 24,000 merchants, our service is available for usage in 170 markets, and we handle transaction volumes of approximately SEK 150 billion per year.
Who will be Kustom’s CEO, and who will be leading the company from October 1st?
Kustom has been acquired by a group that includes Kamjar Hajabdolahi, BLQ Invest, and several other investors. Kamjar Hajabdolahi will also take on the role of CEO of the new company. Several key figures from Klarna Checkout are also joining the venture and becoming co-owners of Kustom.

In addition to Kamjar Hajabdolahi as CEO, key members of Kustom’s leadership will include Jesper Eriksson as Chief Commercial Officer, previously Klarna’s Head of Sweden, Rasmus Fahlander as CPO, formerly Senior Product Director responsible for Klarna Checkout, Alexander Olsson as CFO, previously Financial Director for the US market at Klarna, and Kim Westerlund as Director of Operations, who previously served as Klarna’s Head of Merchant Operations.

Why did Klarna sell KCO?
Klarna has increasingly focused on and invested in developing Klarna as a payment method, which has led to a decreased focus on innovation related to the Checkout platform. Additionally, Klarna has deepened its partnerships with other Payment Service Providers (PSPs), and no longer sees the need to own and maintain the infrastructure for Checkout themselves.

As Klarna explains, “The divestment will enable the Checkout platform to reach its full potential, while Kustom will serve as a payment provider and distribution partner for Klarna going forward. The buyer’s sole focus will be on Checkout and its merchants, allowing Klarna to concentrate on our core business.”
